The 2018 Dodge Ram comes with some extensive updates to the seasoned Ram truck lineup. Most importantly, it features an updated powertrain, introducing new diesel powerplants, and the trademark cab configurations, including three bed lengths, and two- or four-wheel-drive setups.
Especially the Ram 2500 and 3500 come across as heavy-duty machines with upscale design borrowed from the Ram 1500 series truck. Of course, they come with a few notable updates to keep the two series apart.
Exterior and Interior
The 2018 Dodge Ram introduces a taller grille than the last time permitting better airflow into the radiators and at the same time offering a menacing look. The front bumpers also come restyled, flanked on each side with the large fog lights.
The Ram’s fenders are massive and yet they look elegant enough and are well-integrated into the prominent front. Towing mirrors are standard fare while the exterior mirrors turn 90 degrees to provide a larger viewing area, which really comes in handy while towing.
Inside the cabin, the cabin looks functional and rugged. The more advanced trim levels introduce plenty of comfort features such as heated leather seats with power adjustment, power-adjustable pedals, the intuitive 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system, and more storage compartments than the last time.
The Ram also offers safety features such as a backup camera to help with trailer hook-ups, in addition to an integrated trailer brake controller which is integrated with the truck’s ABS system.
The gauge cluster features clean lines with a functional layout while a steering wheel comes with the column-mounted gear shifter.
The 2018 Dodge Ram is outfitted with three powerful engines. The standard is a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 delivering up to 383 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. It is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Also, the Ram offers an optional 6.4-liter gasoline-powered HEMI V-8 packing excellent ratings at 410 horses and 429 pound-feet of torque.
The standout engine thanks to its range-topping capabilities is the upgraded 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel. What’s more, it comes in three versions, all paired with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The three units on offer generate from 350 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque to the truly impressive 385 horsepower and 865 pound-feet of torque.
