2016 Chevrolet Silverado HD Review

The 2016 Chevrolet Silverado HD has released an upgrade featuring a whole host of advanced technologies. Last year, the highly popular Chevrolet heavy-duty pickup received an extensive makeover for the 2015 year model, making the exterior look sharper, and the cabin roomier and more classy than ever. So it makes sense that for the next year the Silverado focused mainly on features such as the Digital Steering Assist system.

Exterior and Interior

Exterior-wise, not much has changed for the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado HD‘s trademark angular front fascia including an imposing chrome bumper, headlamps and foglamps, plus the air vent on the hood.

The new Chevrolet Silverado HD comes in as many body styles and trims as the old model: a regular cab, double cab and crew cab body style. Also, there are three new colors: Siren Red Tint on double cab models, along with Red Hot and Butte Red Metallic on crew cab models.

The standard features include 17-inch steel wheels, power door locks, cruise control, a tilt steering wheel, a 4.2-inch color display and a four-speaker audio system with USB/iPod audio jack and 40/20/40-split front bench with a fold-down center armrest.

The Silverado also now offers a gooseneck and fifth-wheel prep package. The trailering pack includes a spray-in bed liner, the frame-mounted hitch platform that accommodates a gooseneck ball or fifth-wheel hitch mounting brackets, and a wiring harness plug on the sidewall of the cargo bed.

The outgoing model was a huge improvement in terms of the comfort and functionality of the cabin, so we can expect the same from the new Silverado: the high quality upholstery, an intuitive instrument cluster with visible graphics, large and handily placed control buttons for the radio’s volume and tuning as well as those for adjusting the cabin’s climate.

The Chevy MyLink infotainment system now includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. As for safety features, traction and stability control is now standard, as well as antilock disc brakes, while the Digital Steering Assist system is available on the double and crew bab models.

Powertrain

The 2016 Chevrolet Silverado HD utilizes the 6.0-liter V8 engine delivering 360 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque, coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission and a turbocharged 6.6-liter diesel V8 makes 397 hp and 765 lb-ft of torque coupled with a six-speed automatic. However, the latter engine gets the option of the Allison 1000 heavy-duty transmission.
