The 2016 Ford F-450, or the F-Series Super Duty truck, has just been upgraded with the second-generation 6.7-liter, Power Stroke V-8 turbo-diesel engine, coupled with a new GT37 turbocharger and paired with a TorqShift, six-speed transmission that uses an uprated torque converter to handle the extra power and torque. Naturally, the model continues the design language of the 2015 Ford F-150, but it offers up new wheels, a strengthened frame and improved suspension. All these ensure superior towing capacity.
Exterior and Interior
The 2016 Ford F-450 features a chrome grille including the visible “Super Duty” emblem across the upper grille. The front bumper is also made of chrome and likewise the truck features a large chrome trim piece on the tailgate. The truck’s grille comes with a unique take on the trademark Ford’s three-bar design. Each of the three horizontal bars are made up of smaller horizontal bars, giving it a different look than the other F-Series models.
Moreover, the LED headlights and fog lights come as standard, which makes sense given the Limited trim is marketed as a range-topping model. In addition, the truck sits on bespoke 22-inch chrome wheel.
On the list of upgrades there are also features such as a lane-keeping assist, the 360-degree camera system, and Ford’s all-new Pro Trailer Backup Assist. Plus, power-deployable running boards, remote tailgate release, and the class-exclusive panoramic glass roof.
The F-450 trim comes in a wide array of body styles and trim levels, ranging from the regular cab work trucks to top-of-the-line four-door crew cab models with interiors packed with luxury items.
Also, inside the cabin the new F-450 features a functional dashboard from the standard model. There is one new feature the truck offers – the new SYNC 3 infotainment system software, including enhanced voice recognition, allowing occupants to use their natural pitch while speaking into the sound system.
2016 Ford F-450 Powertrain
The 2016 Ford F-450 is fitted with a 6.2-liter gasoline V-8 engine that produces 385 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of peak torque. Or a diesel 6.7-liter V-8, upgraded a new GT37 turbocharger to bring its output up to an impressive 440 horsepower and 860 pound-feet of torque.
Paired to the EcoBoost is a six-speed automatic transmission that features manual shifting capabilities Ford calls SelectShift, a tow/haul mode, and even a sport mode. Towing capacity with either engine remains excellent, topping out at 15,900 pounds with the gasoline V-8 and 16,600 pounds with the diesel engine.
2016 Ford F-450 Release Date and Price
The 2016 Ford F-450 is expected to come to dealerships in the spring of 2016. The pricing will likely begin at around $40,000 before options.
